This tour will start off from Brisbane by coach, departing from Bus Stop 126 in Roma Street (outside Police Headquarters and opposite the Transit Centre) at 7.30am. We travel down the Pacific Highway past the Gold Coast making a comfort/refreshment stop at Chinderah.
Then it’s off to Murwillumbah to investigate the former railway branch line that serviced this important town.
We inspect the railway station (now the Tourist Information Office) then follow the closed line through Stokers Siding, Burringbar, Mooball. Billinudgel and Mullumbimby.
After Tyagarah and just before Byron Bay township we divert to North Beach Station of the Byron Bay Railway Company and have a ride on the world first solar train to Byron Beach station and return using portion of the old railway.
This train is comprised of former NSW government railcars 661 and 726 which are now powered by solar panels on their roofs.
